La Saint Sylvestre French New Year

New Year Holidays Accommodation -Dates still Available.

In France, New Year’s Eve is called “La Saint-Sylvestre” and is celebrated with a feast, called le Réveillon de Saint-Sylvestre. The feast normally includes dishes such as foie gras and sea food washed down with a glass of favourite champagne. “La Saint-Sylvestre” can be a small affair with best friends or a grand ball. (une soirée dansante)
The holiday period ends on January 6 (The Twelfth Night) for the Epiphany, or Jour des Rois. On this day, the French celebrate the Three Wise Men, eating a traditional type of flat pastry cake, la galette des rois, this consists of two sheets of puff pastry, filled with frangipane (almond paste). Inside the cake is a, small china character called a fève. Whoever finds this, or breaks their tooth on it, becomes king or queen and gets to wear a gold paper crown.
Saint Sylvestre was Pope from 314 to 335 A.D., during the time of Constantine the Great. The 31st December is the feast day of Saint Sylvestre.

Le Touquet Christmas Lights 2011

Christmas this year in Le Touquet runs from the 26th November through to the 2nd January. A winter wonderland Le Touquet offers a traditional Christmas setting with fables, characters, lights, music and a truly festive atmosphere, with street stalls offering seasonal goods. I have no doubts that Santa will be making another appearance regularly riding through the trees just along from the Westminster hotel.
